I was an interface designer on the team working on UFC 4, the fourth installment to the EA Sports UFC franchise. My main focus was on the UI/UX design of various new headliner features, the UI style guide, and art asset creation.

prefight REDESIGN
OBJECTIVE
During the middle of the production cycle of UFC 4, I was tasked with a design overhaul of the Prefight screens, which included Fight Mode Select and Fighter Select. The initial design was functional and was implemented into the game, but a strike team was formed to investigate how we might bump up the visuals to add more polish and to better flesh out some of the interaction details. Below are examples of the screens in question before I started on the redesign.
DESIGN
The team’s feedback was overwhelmingly in favour of the horizontal layout as it felt fresh and modern, and accomplished both the tasks of providing more screen real estate for the fighter models and retaining existing features/elements of the previous iteration of the screen. The next step was to generate detailed mockups of all the potential states, working with producers and engineers to ensure that nothing was missed and that the design remained within technical scope. Once the screen was designed and built, artists from the rendering team had free reign to frame the fighters, play around with the background environment, and introduce fighter emotes.
