A brief summary of who I am and what I do. Also a CV.
I'm Sherman, a Vancouver, Canada based interface/graphic designer with a focus on video game development. For over 6 years I’ve worked in AAA game development designing user interfaces that strive to find that perfect balance between streamlined usability and engaging complexity. I’m a strong believer in the idea that video games are an art form, and as such designing user interfaces for games calls for a different skillset and approach compared to product design.
For games, the goal should be to design interfaces that compliment and augment the gameplay, either functionally, artistically, or narratively. Sometimes this means breaking a few rules and introducing a level of difficulty or friction, but other times it means not having any UI at all. Knowing how and when to balance usability and engaging gameplay requires being able to put on not only the UI/UX design hat, but the game design and player archetype hats as well.
